Elementary Schools Highlight Community Kindness

Every year, near the end of January, all three South Pasadena elementary schools–Arroyo Vista, Marengo, and Monterey Hills–celebrate Kindness Week in various ways.

This year at Monterey Hills Elementary School, the focus shifted slightly to representation and connection, a joyful celebration of identity, creativity, and community. On Monday, January 26, City of South Pasadena Mayor Sheila Rossi visited Monterey Hills Elementary School, interacting with the children as they created colorful art collages representing themselves and their families.

Throughout the week at Arroyo Vista and Marengo, students will choose various activities, including adding kind notes, words of encouragement, and jokes to a Choose Kindness poster, writing thank-you notes to faculty and staff, and demonstrating acts of kindness during the school day.

Kindness-themed spirit days help promote a positive atmosphere within each school’s community as students exemplify care and compassion throughout the school year and beyond. Thank you to the wonderful PTA teams who helped customize and coordinate the week’s events for each school.
